Getting wounded and treating myself

I was in the middle of Tenjin Matsuri in Osaka when I tripped and fell on concrete, creating scrapes on both of my knees and a bloody one near my elbow. The rest of the night was a painful experience as I had to endure bad pain from various parts of my body all night, and even woke up several times due to the pain. My knees are swollen so I can barely bend them without experiencing even more excruciating pain, so everything from stairs climbing or sitting down on seats or the toilet were painful. So here are the things I did to help me in my situation:1 Went to a drug store for the necessary medicines.I lucked out in passing by one with a pharmacist who spoke very good english. After showing her my wound, she immediately gave me all the things I needed, which were a wound cleanser solution, an ointment, and a specialized bandage. If you can't find a good english speaker, then showing the wound itself should already inform them on what you needed. Use Google translate to communicate if you really need to.2 Booked the nearest possible cheap hotel if possibleyou need a place to rest to start applying the medicines ASAP. Also you don't want to end up unhygienically touching people with your open wounds at any point. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it should be private as you do not want to bother other guests from seeing you treat your wounds. A hotel is also better equipped and will likely have more things that can help you compared to hostels.if the nearby hotels are too expensive or too far, then I won't blame you for wanting to go back to your original hotel.I also lucked out in finding a cheap hotel (Hotel Kansai some blocks away from Osaka Station), which was just 2996 yen per night for single room, inclusive of buffet breakfast that is mostly chinese cuisine and a tiny bit of Japanese and western. It was just a 100 yen difference between no breakfast and with breakfast. They gave me a triple room despite me being a solo traveler, though this is most likely a mistake on their part.In the morning, the wounds feel better, but my knees are still quite in pain and stiff from swelling. Nevertheless, they're in a much better condition now that they were last night.Additional tips:1 buy the most basic travel insurance you can. Buy an annual plan if you travel often. You'll never know if you'll need it.2 I probably should have asked for a pain reliever from the pharmacist so that I wouldn't be that pained the entire night. via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2Z82mjI
