Buying Souvenirs while backpacking

Has anyone ever wanted to buy a really nice item at a shop, but couldn’t because you wouldn’t have room in your backpack with all our clothes and other stuff you might have bought as well?I feel like I missed out on some nice souvenirs because I limited my souvenirs purchases by backpacking around Europe. For my last trip to France/Berlin in December, I decided this time to just take a large suitcase and retire my backpack because I was dedicated this trip to bring back items (bought mostly vinyl records in Berlin and a small gift from Disneyland Paris). I mostly avoided the suitcase because I didn’t want to check in my bag and have the airline lose my luggage, steal items, or damaging them. Then there was mostly efficiency issues of getting in and off the plane and having to check in my bag because it’s big/heavy from buying souvenirs and my clothes and then paying an extra fee is a hassle I didn’t want to deal with the first time.As for getting off the plane, I like to be efficient and leave the airport ASAP as soon as my flight taxis to the boarding gate, which is why I chose backpacking originally because all my stuff can be carry-on and I can just get off the plane and head straight to the city and not have to wait at the luggage carousel for a while.I decided to do away with my old backpack and just take my large suitcase with me because:I sometimes bring beer from my home-city with me to other countries to share with people at the hostels im staying at or for Airbnb hosts and requires me to check in my bag because you can take beer bottles as carry-on.Bring more souvenirs as mentionedI never have bad experiences when I checked in my luggage. I also am very cautious of my surroundings too.It was a hassle walking around a city with a heavy backpack and then accidentally hitting someone or knocking over something. via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2JZz0gW
