Bangladesh: Am I a naive traveller? Am I a naive traveller? - Bangladesh

Am I a naive traveller?

Tonight I told my mom I was interested in taking a solo trip to either the UK of France in the summer of 2020. I would be 18. I’ve saved money for traveling since I was 14 and I would be financially able to fly to either country and stay in a hostel for around 10 days. I can afford food, entertainment, travel, etc. too. I proposed either country because they’re not nearly as risky as places such as India or places in Eastern Africa. I dream of going to places such as Morocco, Tanzania, China, Jordan, Bolivia, etc., and I thought she’d be okay with a prominent English speaking country, or at least France, because I am nearly bilingual. She instantly called me naive and said I was “asking to be raped” by considering a hostel. She immediately laughed in a “you’re joking” way. I’ve done plenty of research because travel is something I’m passionate about, and I plan on going abroad to Peru and Athens in college (I’m studying history, anthropology, and cultural studies). I’ve done so much research and I’m addicted to watching informative videos about solo traveling, especially as a female, and I understand the dangers of traveling alone and I am afraid of being hurt too. But I can’t not explore. I do know she’s concerned and I know she wants me to be safe. She’s always been caring but she’s also a huge helicopter parent. I’ve never done anything adventurous or teenager like, ever. Am I wrong? How do I convince her otherwise? I’m so anxious and ready to travel because you never know which day could be your last. I’ll be happy to have a travel companion but so far that’s even more unrealistic. via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2LAyiKn
