I want to solo travel Japan this August on a budget - where do I start?

This will be my second solo travel trip, the first being two weeks in Italy last year. My dates of availability are August 14 to September 6. My rough budget is around $5000-$6000CAD, since I know Japan is expensive, but I'd still like to travel on a budget. I prefer hostels over airbnb/hotels.I'm wondering how many days I should dedicate to my trip and if there's anything I should consider outside of the cookie cutter itineraries. I know I want to try summiting Mt Fuji as well.I'm fascinated by Japanese history (especially as it pertains to WW2), the industrialization that took place there, and the culture. I love hiking mountains and landscape photography.Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2XzO9yr
