Next Summer Bucket List Trip
Looking for some opinions and feedback on what I should do for my big solo trip next summer (2020). I'll be 37. Will probably be quitting my job and finding something new when I get home, so length of stay isn't the biggest issue but spending months without pay is a consideration. I make good money so I'm ok spending more on an epic but expensive shorter trip over a cheap but longer one.
Here were the things I was thinking (1 to 3.5ish months):
- Nepal - Annapurna
- Africa - Kilimanjaro, Tanzania safari, maybe South Africa hiking
- Pacific Crest Trail
- Camino De Santiago
- Something else? Did you do something you liked better than these?
If you've done all/some of these, maybe let me know which you liked the best or though were truly worth it. Or maybe you found something else you liked more. Would love to hear it.
Nepal - Scenery seems great. Out of my comfort zone. Will probably need to go with a guide/group maybe? Never been to Asia.
Africa - I'm not a big hiker but always wanted to do Kilimanjaro. Safaris just because it's bucket-listy. South Africa seems like some great hiking.
PCT - Always wanted to do it but its a huge time commitment. Originally from northern California and have family there and Washington. Don't have a lot of thru hiking experience and honestly don't know if I'll like it. Not sure if it's too crowded with college age kids that I won't get along with/relate too as much.
Camino De Santiago - seems a little more casual, easy going. Could be fun but maybe not at the same level as the others. Also, would like to see some of the great museums and world's top restaurants in Spain.
I don't have a lot of hiking experience and am not in the greatest shape right now, although I have a long time to prepare for whatever I choose. I'm getting to the point in life where some more strenuous things may be be out of reach soon and you can't take money with you. Not sure if I'm preparing for a midlife crisis or just planning smartly but any insights or ideas are greatly appreciated.
