I'm a Canadian travelling to China for the first time, how do I get a visa?
Hello, I am hoping to travel to China this summer after I get my passport renewed. I am hoping to get the 10-year tourist visa with multiple entries but I am unsure if this is viable or easy to obtain. I am 22 years-old and am a university student in my final year of studies. I will be travelling to China to visit my girlfriend who lives in China and is a Chinese citizen. Do you have any advice on how I can maximize my chances of getting the best visa for my situation? I'm worried about having to spend a lot of money only to get my visa request declined which would suck. Apparently I have to buy plane tickets to and from China first which is a big hassle as I am not 100% sure yet how long I want to stay in the country for (definitely not longer than the maximum limit of 60 consecutive days on a tourist visa).
As I understand, I need to obtain a letter from my girlfriend documenting that I will stay with her in China (she lives in Shenzhen) but does this letter have to be handwritten or can it be in an electronic format? Would it be best for me to hire an agency to apply for me or should I submit the request and paperwork myself? I heard that Canadian citizens have visa-free travel to Hong Kong for 6 months and I can apply for a mainland visa through an agency there but I am worried about getting scammed. Basically, what are the requirements and best way forward to accomplish this? This may seem like a dumb question but it is my first time travelling outside of my country so I am very new and inexperienced to international travelling. Does anyone have any prior experience they may be willing to share with me to help me? This may seem like a dumb question but it is my first time travelling outside of my country so I am very new and inexperienced to international travelling. Thank you so much.
