I just did it!
I (23M) know these posts are on here all the time and I am no different, but I finally booked my flight! I will be headed to Rome from Boston in early September for a 3 month solo backpacking trip through Europe!
This trip has been on my mind for almost two years, and I almost decided against it when a friend backed out about 6 months ago. The thought of going solo scared me, but I realized I’m independent and enjoy my alone time. However, I think doing this trip solo will really help push me out of my comfort zone. Meeting new people from around the world, navigating through unknown cities, and having the time of my life.
I have been in my career for just over two years now and realized a year ago this wasn’t what I wanted to do. I used my earnings to pay off my student loans in 15 months and will now work through the end of August to save for this trip.
I will come back with no job which I know is “irresponsible”, but I have no significant other, no kids no mortgage. Why not now? A career and money will always be there, but my youth won’t! My parents probably won’t be thrilled initially, but I know they will ultimately support my decision.
As for now, I want to remain flexible and be open to visiting places upon recommendations or with people I meet along the way. I have a general idea of a route I want to take but I will not set it in stone. I will go with the flow for 3 months! I am so excited and September can’t come quick enough!! Any and all advice or thoughts are appreciated! Hope to see some of you along the way!
