Would Appreciate Some Thoughts on My Itinerary in Spain and Portugal
Hi,
I am traveling to Spain and Portugal in 3 weeks. This will be my first solo trip and I would like some thoughts on my itinerary. I will be in Europe for 2 weeks.
April 29-May 1: Barcelona (I arrive in the morning of the 29th) 3 Days
May 2: May 3: Granada (2 days)
May 4: May 6: Seville (3 days)
May 7: May 10: Porto (3 or 4 days depending on if I go to Guimaraes)
May 11: May 12: Lisbon (2-3 days depending on if I spend an extra day in Porto)
May 13: Fly home
I originally planned on going to Seville to Madrid but found that I would not have sufficient time. Is it worthwhile to fly to Madrid with a 10 hour layover to Porto? I could explore a very small portion of Madrid. My primary concern is that things would get too hectic.
Rest Days: I have been told these are good to have. I plan to have one in Seville, Granada, and Porto. I will explore cities but the pace will be smaller.
Walking Tours: I plan on taking a free walking tour (I believe you tip at the end) in nearly every city.
I plan on a day trip to Braga from Porto. I may also make a day trip to Guimaraes. When I am in Lisbon, I plan on going to Sintra as well. Would 2 days in Barca and a day trip to Montserrat be a good idea?
Do you think I have given sufficient time in each city? I understand some travelers do like to spend a week in each city to truly understand the feel of it.
Are there any places you would recommend visiting in each city or places around each city? I have considered a day visit to on the journey from Granada to Seville.
Do you have any tips in general or for specific cities?
I've heard Barcelona gives off a sketchy vibe due to the pickpockets. Any strategies to combat this?
Am I trying to do too much in too short of a time? Should I stay less in a specific city and more in another?
For people who use a big travel backpack (like the 35L type), do you have a smaller backpack for snacks and water?
First time solo traveler looking for any tips or help he can get.
