What to see in Vigevano, the Sforza's ideal city - A brief guide to the city made splendid by Ludovico il Moro
Are you looking for an elegant place full of interesting stories? Then we have the right city for you! Discover with us what to see in Vigevano, the Sforza's ideal city.
Vigevano is a town in the middle of that portion of the Lombard territory called Lomellina. To reach it you cannot do without crossing long expanses of rice fields that during the summer really offer a very suggestive panorama. Once you arrive in the city you would expect to immediately see the Renaissance beauties left us by the Dukes of Milan. Instead Vigevano also suffered, like all industrial cities, an urban development, in some cases wild, which has hidden its ancient beauty. One thing, however, that you immediately notice is the presence of many bicycles and cycle paths that make it a very pleasant place to visit.
The brief guide to discovering what to see in Vigevano that we recommend follows in broad terms a precise historical thread: the ducal Vigevano. The city in fact between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries at the behest of the Dukes of Milan, reached its maximum splendor becoming in fact a second capital. Before the ducal era Vigevano was a small village included in the territory of the perimeter of the castle walls or a little more. There is little evidence of the history of the village until the Renaissance, except for a few findings from the Roman and Longobard ages and its participation in the second Lombard League.
After these brief historical information, it's time to start our tour to discover what to see in Vigevano!
