What advice/precautions can you give to a girl in her twenties looking to solo travel abroad for the first time?

One of my biggest dreams in life since I was probably 12 was to travel. I literally always fantasize about it and I hate the idea of living in the same place for the rest of my life. I’m 20, and I have a fair amount of money saved to get me started, but most of my friends are either broke or don’t have the desire to go abroad yet. Soooo this means I have no potential traveling buddies. I’m perfectly fine with that, but my mom is a bit of a worrier and she keeps telling me I could never travel by myself.
I always tell her “but you have no issue with my older brother traveling by himself??”
And she says “yeah, but that’s because you’re a girl and he’s a man,”
So I guess the whole point of this post is to gather as much advice as I can for solo female travelers. What should I avoid? What should I seek out? Etc etc.
Anything will be helpful, and I appreciate everyone who takes the time to leave a comment! I really really want to go to Europe and Asia (I’m from US) and just experience the different cultures and food and see all the sights I can. I don’t want to be held back just because I’m a girl.
