Travel bug vs job title
Hi Reddit,
So, I (23M) graduated from a technical school and 3 weeks later found a job with a good company. I’m making good money, for my age, have benefits, and 3 weeks vacation a year. On my first day of work I immediately hated it, but stuck it out for the summer to see if it would get better, 2 years later I’m still at the company. Now, the work doesn’t not bother me (I occasionally enjoy it), besides sitting at a desk all day. But I am unsure if I have become interested or if over the last 2 years I’ve become accustomed to the boring work.
Before I had gone to school I travelled to Australia for 3 months with some friends. I’m so eager to leave on another longer trip (longer then 3 weeks). I want to leave and travel through Thailand and Vietnam, then just see where life takes me but also don’t want to lose the financial stability that this job provides me with.
To add to my problems, in the comfy desk job I currently have, I only use the basics of what I learned in school, and have forgotten much of the rest. I imagine this will make it much harder to find a job doing anything but what I’m currently doing now (if I choose to stay in this field) and will most likely re-start at a lower job title and a potentially a difference company.
Any redditors have similar stories they can share and tell me how it impacted your life, in both a good and a bad way?
