Solo travelling/trekking in Hokkaido, Japan in the Summer
I (19M) am going to Japan for 2 weeks in the summer by myself and want to go to the North Island (spend up to 1 week there). I am going to hop on the bullet train from Tokyo up to Sapporo (or maybe fly) on the second day and then I've got no plan after that. I've seen that there are some pretty epic mountains in the centre of the island and am thinking of spending a few days hiking about there. I might go to Wakkani on the northern tip and hop on a ferry to the extinct volcano. What's the situation with accessibility to the national parks, guest houses and other accommodation, places to buy food. Has anyone else done something like this? Am I missing out on something while in the North Island? Also how concerned should I be with booking train tickets and accommodation in advance? I am going June/July.
Cheers!
