One week in Costa Rica... is it doable with my budget?
Hi all! I’m graduating from university in about a month, and I’ll have two weeks off before heading into my new job. I’m trying to plan a short weeklong trip to a location close by (I’m in the US), and Costa Rica keeps popping up in my head as a possibility. After airfare, I’ll probably have around $500 for a week in Costa Rica to cover food, lodging, and transportation.
My question— is this doable? I’m in the infantile stages of planning this trip, and I’d love to experience San Jose for a few days before heading to see Arenal or possibly Monteverde. I’m too not interested in seeing the coast— I’ve heard it’s beautiful, but I want this trip to be more about exploring the rainforests.
Hostel prices seem to be reasonable, as do transportation prices, but is $500 reasonable for 6-7 days here? I don’t want to price myself out of having a good time. I’m young and scrappy, so I don’t mind doing things cheap, but I understand if my budget is impossible to work with.
