Myanmar and Thailand: Inle Lake or Chiang Mai
Ok I know this comparison makes little to no sense since these places are marginally different, however as it turns out I have to pick between these two during my Thailand/Myanmar trip, because of limited time. I can’t skip Bangkok cause that’s where I’m landing to from Europe and also because I really want to explore it a bit. I can’t skip Yangon cause I’m flying there and I’d genuinely like to visit it. I can’t skip Bagan cause it’s the reason I’m making this trip in the first place and I can’t skip Mandalay either cause I want to take the boat from Bagan to Mandalay, plus I want to visit the surrounding temples. I will have a bit of time left before I have to leave so I’m torn between these two. I’m also planning to leave my bag in Bangkok so I have to go back anyway. Theoretically the lake makes more sense but the problem is the transfer between Mandalay and the lake and then between the lake and Yangon. I don’t want to pay for a flight and bus rides or train rides sound tedious between these destinations. So I guess my question is, is the lake so incredible after all? I don’t bike and that seems like something many people do there to reach the temples and I’ll be alone so I might find the calm atmosphere of the area boring. I’ve already seen water buffalos too and stilted communities. On the other hand, Chiang Mai sounds more lively. Any advice/suggestions? Thank you in advance, this is a lovely community btw.
