Middle East: Israel, Lebanon, Turkey or (not really ME) Uzbekistan for one week?
Hi all,
After having to abandon a trip to Colombia for dental emergency reasons (weeps), I'm looking to book a fairly last minute week in June to make up for it. I've narrowed my list down to
- Turkey
- Israel
- Lebanon
- Uzbekistan
Interests/requirements:
- Architecture, particularly Islamic and Soviet (the latter probably only pertains to Uzbekistan)
- History - a unique museum is always good fun to me
- Good weather - should be all of the above in June
- Easy transportation between cities. I won't be driving, and don't want to spend all my time on organised trips if I can help it, though I don't mind the occasional one
- As I'd only have one week, a fairly compact circuit, preferably where I can stay in one or two places. +1 for Israel and Lebanon
- Great street food (prefer street food to restaurants when travelling solo)
- Ruins
- Decent hostel or guesthouse network. Happy to splurge a bit more for a private room
- Safe for female solo travellers
- Not overly touristy
- Budget: Around £600 for the week excluding flights. I can go higher, but this seems fair
- Flights: flying from the UK, so all are a reasonable distance (5ish hours or less)
- Visa: I don't believe I have any concerns with visas for any of these countries with a UK passport
This would be my first time in the region, though I've traveled quite a lot solo before. I'd love to hear peoples' experiences of these countries and which ones they'd recommend most.
Thanks!
