Excitement decreasing as trip draws near
Wondering if others have had a similar experience or have any advice. I've been planning a trip to several countries in South America for about half a year now, and I leave at the end of May. I taught English in China for the 2017/2018 school year and spent lots of time travelling, solo and with others, and felt so happy, like this was what I was supposed to be doing, what I imagine people feel when they find a job they are actually good at/feel fulfilled in doing. I got back to the US, had the usual rollercoaster of emotions of being excited to see loved ones, have my favorite foods, etc. and then trying to figure out my next move. I've been saving money as a nanny and will have about $8,000 to spend on this trip.
The only thing is, I'm getting less and less excited the closer the trip gets. I started dating someone in September and we're moving in together when I get back. He's going to come to Peru and Brazil for about 10 days but I'm wondering if that's part of why I'm not as excited. I'm also planning to start a career when I get back and end this string of temporary jobs I've been doing for years. I'm really excited for the future, but also nervous about what things will be like when I'm back from my trip. When I moved to China, tons of people said stuff like "I wish I could do that, but I'm married now" or "enjoy it while you don't have anything tying you down." I hated hearing about fellow travel lovers who got into a relationship and then stopped travelling. But now I feel like that's what I'm doing!
Lately, I've been questioning everything like if I will make friends, if I'll get burned out on such a long trip, if I should save money for when I get back and have to spend time job hunting, if I will even like Machu Picchu or Easter Island, etc.
Has anyone else gone through this? Any advice or thoughts?
