New to this sub, but had a fairly important question and I figure this would be the best and quickest way to get some answers.

So, I am heading to Kathmandu from the States on May 6th. I have pretty much planned out my entire trip with lodging, gear, general itinerary, and medications. I have done plenty of backpacking/traveling, but not at this altitude.

Anyways, up until yesterday I felt confident that I could complete this by myself. I was talking to somebody I met who is much more of world traveler than me who said that it is highly frowned upon to trek solo up to EBC. He shared that locals see it as you not contributing to their culture, and that I should absolutely get a Sherpa/some sort of guide.

Is this accurate from any of yall’s experience? If so, I need to make some quick plans 😅...
