Anyone here done a 5-6 month road trip through Canada and USA, what are some recommendations you’d give to someone doing a trip like that?
Next year I am hoping to go on a long road trip from eastern Canada to western Canada and then down into the US and back. The trip will be primarily based around national parks but I would likely be visiting all of the major cities along the way too (Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, Victoria, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, etc) so a fair bit of both city and outdoors, though again still with my priority on the outdoors. I want to hit up all of the major national parks along the route and do some camping whenever possible and probably some car camping to save money haha. Hoping to hit up Banff, Yoho, Jasper, glacier, Yellowstone, Zion and a bunch of others I can’t think of off the top of my head. I’ll be driving a 2010 Mazda 3, in pretty good shape (unless something happens between now and then lol). I don’t have any knowledge of cars at all, so any mechanical issues I won’t have a clue what to do, but I want to get the car serviced before going on the trip. I’ll get all of the fuels topped up and new tires as I’ll need new ones by then anyways. I of course need to buy a spare tire as well for any emergencies and learn how to change a tire on my own (I should know this already but don’t..). I’ll get accustomed to setting up my own tent and practicing so I can do it in a timely manner on my own (also something I should know how to do but don’t, but I’ll learn before the trip).
I’d likely bring a small portable stove so I can cook my own on the side of the road or while camping at a campsite.
Uh other than that are there any big things you would suggest I learn or think about before the trip? Anything you wished you had known before going on a similar trip?
