A few days anywhere in Southeast Asia!
Hello /r/solotravel !
So next month I am heading down to Vietnam for 24-25 days, with the plan to slowly take the train from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. At the end, after having seen Vietnam, I have about 5-6 unstructured days to spend anywhere in the region before flying back to Toronto. I was wondering if there was some area in the region that any of you had experienced and really enjoyed, that I would be able to soak in in just a few days. I am fairly flexible with the budget, I know SEA is a diverse region and that different countries and cities will have varying costs. That being said, I'd love to be able to keep it fairly reasonable, probably avoiding pricier spots like resorts.
If anyone was curious, here is a rough itinerary for my Vietnam Trip. I'd love some criticism, and some opinions on places I've heard mixed reviews about.
Ho Chi Minh City- A couple nights, basically getting over jetlag and into the swing of things. Will see Cu Chi tunnels.
Mui Ne- May spend a night there, not completely sold though.
Dalat- 2 nights, longer if I enjoy it. Excited to see a less urbanized side of Vietnam.
Hoi An- 2 nights, with an extra day to see the My Son Ruins
Hue- 2 nights probably. I have heard lots of people say they've loved it, but many saying it was too touristy for their taste.
Dong Hoi- Very excited for Dong Hoi! At least a couple nights, some time to see Phong Nha as well.
Hanoi- My plan was to use Hanoi as a satellite for other attractions in the region. Will probably spend a full day, but not much more. From there:
Sa Pa: Sa Pa, and nature in general, appeals a lot to me. If any of you have some input on recommended time, that would be great.
Ba Be: Again, no idea how long to spend there, but it seems beautiful.
Ha Long Bay/Bai Tu Long Bay: If time is sparse, I plan on doing a 1 night cruise in Ha Long Bay. If I feel comfortable, I'd rather head to Bai Tu and do a 3 day cruise.
