2 spare days in England
Hi there! I desperately need the collective wisdom of this sub. Any feedback is most appreciated.
I've got two days at the tail end of my trip to England and am torn between two parts of my brain: the part run by some semblance of reason, and the part run entirely on FOMO. Both parts love really old cathedrals.
First with the firm and solid: I'll be in Blackburn, Lancashire on a Friday evening (24 May), and have to make my way to Heathrow by 0900 for a 1200 flight on Mon the 27th. (I'll have already taken in London and the Cotswolds earlier in the trip.)
Now to the squishy possibilities: The ideas I've had range from the reasonable (train to York Sat am, Sat and Sun there, early train to Heathrow Monday morning) to the insane (train to York Sat, see Yorkminster, Shambles, train to Lincoln late Sat eve. Sun morning Lincoln Cathedral, train to Ely, maybe Peterborough on the way since the I'd have to change trains there anyway, overnight Ely, early train to Heathrow Monday), with a somewhat reasonable middle ground (one day each York and Lincoln).
What I'd most like to know is which Cathedrals could I leave out? They all look amazing, and with Notre Dame halfway burnt down earlier this week, a part of me says "just see them all, even if it kills you." The more sensible side of me knows I'll be physically miserable if I try to pull that off, but needs confirmation of what I should leave for another time.
Tl;dr History and art nerd wants to know :What's the best to try to squeeze into a weekend: Yorkminster, Lincoln Cathedral, Peterborough Cathedral or Ely Cathedral, and which could I leave out without regretting it?
Again, thanks so much for any feedback!
