I'm switching jobs and have almost the whole month of May off. I'm looking to do some travelling to a far-away destination that I've never been before and don't think I'll have the change to get back to anytime soon.
So, being from Western Europe, I started thinking about New Zealand. Of course, the first thing you think about is the good warm temperatures and a lot of people that I'll be meeting. Then I remembered that it's the literal opposite side of the world and it's going to be almost winter there.

I was wondering if anyone has experiences with going to New Zealand in May and if they would recommend it. I'd especially like to hear about the chances of meeting new people as it will be my first ever solo travel, and if there's enough cool stuff to see and do when there in May.
