What's it like after actually doing solo travel after dreaming of it for years?

Hello!

Fairly straight forward question, but for those of you that have "accomplished" the goal of doing long term solo travel (more than a month, buy a one way ticket and just go for the length of "until..." type of thing) after having dreamt of it for years and years, what's it like now that you've actually done it/are doing it?

Are you finding that it's better than you expected? If so, in what ways?

Are you finding that you over romanticized the idea/had too high of expectations?

Do you feel like you no longer have the desire to continue exploring the world for yourself or maybe has your curiosity grown ever stronger??

I've been dreaming of backpacking around the world and doing a solid 6-24+ month walkabout ever since I took my first trip (studied abroad in Australia for a semester in 2014). I've taken a decent amount of short trips around the US and even moved across the country three times to pursue other dreams, but nothing has even come close to scratching the long term travel itch and I plan on taking the leap next January.

Any and all insights, stories, comments, etc are greatly appreciated :)

Edit: an abundance of typos
