Trouble deciding whether or not to backpack Europe solo

I [19M] have wanted to backpack Europe for years, and I finally have the opportunity to this summer. However, there's no one I really know that can go this summer. I am nervous to spend weeks solo in Europe, and feel that I might enjoy myself better with a friend. I am having a great amount of trouble deciding if I should go this summer, or see if I can try to find someone to accompany me the following summer. But I'm also nervous that if I just keep delaying the trip it will never happen. I'm here to ask for some advice from your own experiences. Did you have any trouble meeting fun people? How do you feel backpacking through Europe (France, Italy Switzerland, maybe more to be decided) is solo? I have no solo travel experience, and haven't even had a trip outside the US that I am old enough to remember much of. Thanks!
