Technology for Road Trips
Double-checking I could post this here. /r/roadtrip is your source for everything road trip related - it is optimization technology for road trips. If you enjoy traveling by car - it is multi-day trips by car.
I worked on invention of new technology to help travelers experience more of the world. For whom travel is a lifestyle for a lifetime - see the world before you die. So I (and two other geeks) created a brand new search engine for road trips, optimized for maximum curiosity by time and by budget. Trips are optimized for emotional experience by time & money & geography & waypoints altogether. This works for Australia, France, Italy, and India. Next will be Canada and United States.
You could specify a sequence of waypoints in the country of interest, duration, budget - and you will get an optimal route from first location to the last location, via desired waypoints if possible. If you have enough time or budget, then additional waypoints will be proposed. For each search you get a list of alternative tours. You could send the route to Google Maps or HERE WeGo, and then to you phone or car, for offline turn-by-turn navigation. All locations and POIs are linked to Wikipedia, just click any of them for more info.
The underlying math problem is one of Millennium Problems by Claymath Institute. In computational complexity theory it is known as NP-complete. Solutions to such problems are relatively easy to check, but unpredictably hard and expensive to find. This doesn't depend of computational capacity, could take hours, days, months. Being specific, this is a dramatic mix of TSP (Traveling Salesman Problem) + CSP (Constraint Satisfaction Problem) + MOO (Multi-Objective Optimization). We are solving this draconian knot with Artificial Intelligence, specifically designed for travel, for road trips.
