Solo Trip in Northern Italy - Advice and Recommendations?
Hello! Following a work trip in June, I’m going to take a handful of days (up to a week) to travel around in northern Italy. I’ll be starting in Faenza or Rimini, and I don’t have any real idea of which cities I have to try and visit or what the public transport and lodging situations will be, so I’m calling into the internet void hoping for assistance.
If you had to choose Milan or Bologna or Turin or some other place, which would you prioritize? What are your favorite things you’ve done in northern Italy? Is solo travel very safe in this region, especially because I’m a mid-20’s woman that won’t pass for Italian? Is hostel culture strong, or would hotels be more common? How much will I need to worry about pickpockets?
I’ve traveled solo in Spain before, which was substantially aided by the fact that I speak Spanish. I could probably hack it with Italian, and I’m going to try to pick some up before the trip. My usual favorite activities are museums, thrift shopping, and foodie experiences like wine tasting etc. I’ll be coming off a week and a half-long work trip so I’ll probably be forced to have a suitcase and a backpack.
Any and all wisdom is welcome. This trip is in early planning stages and I want to get my bearings now so I plan smart and not hard.
