Solo cruising as a female
I’ve been kicking around the idea of a solo cruise for a couple of weeks now. I’m not a stranger to traveling alone, I often take solo road trips but always have the security of my dogs and (state permitting) a weapon. I’ve been on 5 cruises, always with family, but they were all as a child over 10 years ago. From what I remember though it does seem pretty safe to me.
I’ve found that Norwegian has solo studio cabins available for a lower price than it’d be to get a standard double occupancy room and they actually look really nice. Also pretty cool that they have a lounge and activities for solo passengers so excursions and what not would be less intimidating.
One thing that sort of concerns me is the “singles” aspect though. I’m not single, but traveling (especially cruising) with my bf doesn’t seem feasible right now. He has limited PTO and we tend to enjoy different things while traveling. I’m a morning bird, he’s a night owl. I like to sightsee and explore, he likes to relax and be a beach bum. A cruise just seems like too close of quarters for it to be fun for both of us.
I’m pretty introverted so I don’t mind the limited social interaction, but I’m concerned that the solo lounge/activities are going to be full of people looking to “mingle” if you know what I’m saying. Also, do you tell people you’re chatting with at the pool/bar/restaurants that you’re traveling alone?
Have any of you gone on cruises alone? Can you offer any advice/talk about your experiences?
