Places to Be Creative / Work in Central Europe
Hi solotravel,
This year, I plan on traveling to Central Europe for 60 days between April and early June. I'm looking for specific suggestions and an itinerary critique based on how I like to travel.
Some background: I've been working on the road (in a technical role) for 7 months now across East Asia, SE Asia and India. When I'm not working for pay, I write fiction. This means I travel slower than your average backpacker to leave days to work and be creative. When I travel, I like to mix cities with interesting subcultures, independent theaters, bookstores and cafes with more quiet, rural areas with a lot of nature and hikes. I like meeting people, especially other creative professionals. I've paid more to stay with Airbnb/guesthouse hosts who are passionate about their work. I've met a lot of filmmakers, activists, and conservationists in NE India, for example. I hate crowds and don't mind missing out on tourist attractions to avoid them. I also pick regions/cities for specific cultural reasons. Eg. I spent two weeks in Kolkata because I love the poems by Rabindranath Tagore and the movies of Satyajit Ray. Kolkata is also just a vibrant and inspiring city. Basically, work and creative projects come first and travel & the people I meet through it simply inspires the former.
My Central Europe Itinerary:
Krakow, Poland: 8 nights
Zakopane, Poland: 5 nights
Wroclaw, Poland: 7 nights
Prague, Czech Republic: 3 nights
Cesky Krumlov, Czech Rep: 5 nights
Brno, Czech Rep: 3 nights
Vienna, Austria: 7 nights
Salzburg, Austria: 5 nights
Lake Bohinj, Slovenia: 4 nights
Lake Bled, Slovenia: 3 nights
Ljubljana, Slovenia: 3 nights
Budapest, Hungary: 8 nights
What places am I missing? What places should I spend more/less time in? What are some spots/activities in each city that I should check out?
Thanks!
