Northern and Eastern Europe Itinerary
Hey all,
I’ve had this trip idea in my head for a while now. A few years actually. Now, my ideal trip would be to start in Helsinki and make my way down to Istanbul, but I know this isn’t realistic in 3 weeks’ time. So, I’ll need to cut it down and I’m thinking of doing something like this:
Helsinki - 3 days
Tallinn - 3 days
Riga - 3 days
Vilnius - 3 days
Minsk - 3 days
Kyiv - 2 days
Odessa - 2 days
Chisinau - 2/3 days
That itinerary allows me to hit the highlights of most countries and leaves a few days of wiggle room in case I want to stay somewhere longer or add in an extra stop. I’m hoping 2.5-3 days is enough to see the capitols of the Baltic states and to take a day trip where possible.
I’ve already visited Kyiv which is why I’m kind of breezing through it. I know there’s a ton more to do in some of these countries but I feel like I don’t have the time or budget (especially regarding Finland) for it. I’ve also done Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia, Hungary etc which is why I’m not branching out west.
Basically I’m looking for some advice from anyone that’s been to this area before. How did you get around? The night bus/train helped save so much time last I was in Europe - I didn’t really have any full days that were burned getting from one place to the next. Hoping the same is possible here.
Would also love any recommendations for hostels, day trips, or other towns/cities I may not have included.
