My solo travel experience this year...

So... my demographic is probably way different from the average poster on this board, but I thought I'd share.

I'm 41 years old. I've been married for 15 years and have 4 kids age 2-11. I love travel and have loved it my whole life. My father is a retired airline pilot (United) and for the first 6 months this year, we have his standby passes that allow my wife and I to travel as much as we like until July anywhere United flies.

Now, I have a full time job that I can't up and walk away from and combined with my kids at home and other responsibilities, my wife and I can't really travel together. We have decided to just take long weekend solo trips while the other spouse stays home with the kids. I generally leave on thursday morning and come home sunday night (I have some PTO and I work my schedule that I can get most of my work done MTW). Same schedule for my wife.

It has been a blast despite the quick trips. Here is a quick rundown of what we have done so far:

January: I traveled to Amsterdam/Bruges. One full day in Amsterdam and one full day in Bruges. Both are fantastic cities to wander and people watch. Bruges was my favorite. Such a fantastic little medieval city and the waffles and fries can't be beat

February: Mexico City. CDMX has never been on my radar for whatever reason, but man am I glad I went! 3 days of cheap tacos, awesome museums, luche libre wrestling and wandering. Such a great city!

March: my wife and I were actually able to go to Italy for 4 days together, so yeah, not solo travel, but I thought I'd throw it in there. Rome, Florence and Pisa. Loved it.

My wife has done California, Maui and she is currently in Edinburgh Scotland as I type this.

Next week, I am most likely going to Buenos Aires or Tel Aviv/Jerusalem for my solo travel. Future destinations before July include: Athens, Stockholm and Osaka. May be able to get another trip in there as well.

We have used lots of hotel points, so these trips (including basically free airfare... do have to pay taxes, usually between 20-80 bucks) have been very budget friendly.

Travel well, friends!
