Mega list of Essential Cities In The World

***TLDR; I have a list of cities below and 2 questions. Everything else talks about my interests, in case you want to know and base suggestions off of that.****

Hey everyone,

Some quick notes:

- I'm a bit unsure if I want to travel to Australia. Doesn't look like Sydney and Melbourne are worth it.

- I don't plan on going to Africa and South America. Feel free to suggest cities and why I should go.

- I've been to some of these places already, but will list my entire mega list so this post could bring value to others.

Questions:

  1. Should I stay longer/shorter in some places?
  2. Should I add/remove any place?

I've done a lot of research and have created this list of cities I want to visit throughout my life(Not 1 trip). I don't want to visit every small city, as i'm sure there are hundreds of incredible places throughout the world. I'd rather focus and cherish the main ones, and appreciate daily life and where I live in America. It's possible, in the future, if my list is finished, i'll go to new places, but that's not the goal. The goal is to revisit places I loved. I'm 21, will begin work end of August, and work will only allow 3 weeks vacation. As I get promoted, maybe unlimited vacation(Software Engineer or Product Manager or Engineering Manager), but I doubt companies would allow more than 1 month. I haven't decided if I want to vacation from May-beginning of August, giving myself a little under a month to relax and build my Software skills for work, or if I want to travel the entire vacation, or if I will travel less(<40 days), or maybe I won't travel at all. But the length of this mega list will probably help in determining that. I'm also trying to retire early, maybe age 40, so i'd rather not have ambitions of visiting 200 cities, as that would hinder my everyday life, unless I become a multi-millionaire. Note, i'd like to have enough money to be able to retire at 40, but realistically, i'll probably still work, but I might switch to a more relaxing position, or I just might love my job so much I stay.

I mainly like to walk around dense and small streets, take pictures of cool statues, art, buildings, plazas, lit up places, and nature within a city. Taking pictures and walking around developing a mental map of the city are my favorite things to do, and I also enjoy eating great food(Which is the main factor for deciding where I want to re-visit). I don't care much for beaches, hiking, and i'm not the biggest fan of Asian cuisine, but I enjoy chicken stuff like noodles, dumplings, fried rice etc. So a basic checklist of what I enjoy when traveling:

  1. Taking pictures of cool things, preferably cool statues like in front of temples, art pieces in museums, street art, cool buildings and inside them like Sagrada Familia and Gaudi's work and Big Ben and London Eye, bright lights and colorful places like Disneyland and Christmas Markets and what Tokyo looks like from pictures and Times Square, and nature ONLY if it's conveniently located in the city area(I don't like hiking or walking a lot in nature when I travel, unless it's some "must see" spectacle, but I haven't visited a place yet that had something like this).
  2. I'm a picky eater, and I don't eat pork or seafood, but I also enjoy eating good food. I mainly like chicken, pasta, pizza, chicken dumplings/noodles, bread, risotto, cheese, chocolate, and i'll drink some nice fruit smoothies every now and then. I eat healthy, but when I travel, I don't want to eat healthy lol.
  3. I wouldn't want to visit a place for the beaches and forests. Maybe in the future I would, but I would get bored. If a city has a beach nearby and it's gorgeous, i'll spend 30 minutes sitting there, but I wouldn't swim in it. I also don't like sand. It's all coarse, and rough, and irritating. And it gets everywhere. For example, Singapore has some famous park area nearby, I would totally visit that. However, i'm currently not interested in visiting a resort on an island with beaches and forest.
  4. I do enjoy crowded areas like Times Square, but I would be a little annoyed at crowded areas in narrow streets like Amsterdam because I don't like to walk very slow.
  5. I don't drink alcohol, and I don't do any drugs. But I enjoy going out at night and dancing.
  6. I plan on doing all of these trips solo. If I meet someone in the future, and she wants to travel those 2-3 week vacations with me, i'd be happy to go with her. However, I love traveling solo because I can do whatever I want, whenever I want, there's no pressure of ensuring the other person is enjoying their time, and I don't have to plan with other people. I will stay in hostels though, so I can interact with others if I want, and have people to party with at night if I am not tired.
  7. I love getting lost and aimlessly walking around, discovering a random street art, random food place, random cool building, etc.
  8. I usually take cheap airplanes to travel between cities, but places like Italy, i'd use the train. My least favorite thing about traveling abroad is I don't have internet on my current plan(This can and will most likely change once I start working), so finding my hostel is a bit stressful, but i've never NOT found it.
  9. I really love traveling and seeing new places, developing a mental map of the city in my head. This means, I really love that after I leave a city, I can imagine walking through it, knowing how to get from A to B. Every city i've visited, I can pretty much do this. If I don't have this mental map, or I didn't take cool pictures at a place, I feel like I want to revisit the city(the first three cities I traveled to, this happened).
  10. I really enjoy taking my time. I'll travel from 8am-12pm, and if I haven't eaten random street food, i'll get lunch, then 1pm-6pm i'll keep doing stuff, but I noticed after it gets dark, if the city isn't lit up, and most museums close, i'll go get dinner then go back to my hostel. If it's a city like London, i'd probably stay out late like 8pm. Then i'll take a shower, and if the hostel has an event, i'll go to that.
