Bangladesh: How do you deal with negativity surrounding travelling? How do you deal with negativity surrounding travelling? - Bangladesh

How do you deal with negativity surrounding travelling?

I love travelling. But I find that a lot of people around me do not. Being a solo traveller, this makes things even worse, because concerns about safety and what not are brought up.

Some context:

I am Dutch, but my parents are immigrants from the Indian subcontinent. We didn't travel much during my childhood, unless it was to visit relatives abroad. As an adult I've expressed my frustration to my mom and sister about the lack of travelling. I'm 26 now, but I feel like I've missed out on so much. Even art galleries and places to see in my own city of Amsterdam were left unexplored.

The general response however, is that all this stuff about seeing places is unnecessary. My mom and sister are content living in the same place forever. They are also not interested in eating 'exotic' foods and when I grew up we never ate anything besides the 10-15 dishes that my mom has always made, neither did we go out to eat. My sister has grown up to be the same type of person as our mom.

My dad however is very supportive and he also encourages me to see new things and places. The only thing is that he is getting old and cannot do the same things I can or want to do (such as hiking).

So I wonder, there must be more people like me, who don't get much support from their close relatives and friends when it comes to travelling. How do you deal with it? How do you cope with the desire to share your exciting plans and ideas?
