Does anyone else find it really difficult relinquishing power when it comes to travelling with others?
So I'm a planning traveller through and through. Whether on my own, with my partner, or with friends, everyone knows that holidays go through me. Of course locations, activities and routes are discussed with my boyfriend or with the group, but actually getting from A to B and working out which day is best to do whatever is all on my shoulders. This is definitely how I like it, though. Not necessarily because I don't trust people (my boyfriend did plenty of solo travel in his single days), but everyone knows I like finding the best prices or seeking out unique routes or things to do on top of collective wishes (and more often than not, I will find the best thing).
Recently, my boyfriend's group of friends proposed the idea of a short break basically anywhere in Europe. I was invited along with the group along with one of the girl's boyfriends, so I immediately didn't feel like it was my place to start planning, though I did offer. They've decided that several big European cities are good options, with travel from one to another the ideal situation. My big issue is they just want to book onto a generic route offered by a travel agent that only covers the main two cities, and costs at least 2x what the rate would be to book everything ourselves. I really don't want to rock the boat since they seem pretty pleased with themselves about finding this route 'all planned out so we don't have to do anything!', but I know I'll spend the whole holiday thinking about how we could be doing a special, unique route, or eating where we want to eat, or staying in one of the places longer just because we can. I guess I'm just wondering how people who have solo travelled to their heart's content go back to dealing with situations like this?
