Cell Phones in India - SIM Cards vs. Trabug?
Hi all,
Headed to India in November. I've been reading up on how to get cell service there and hear it's a pain. Basically, I've got two options:
- Buy an unlocked phone and get a SIM card when I'm there, which I've heard can take up to 2 days to activate
- Rent a phone from a service called Trabug, which will be ready at my hotel on Day 1
My concern with Trabug is most of the "reviews" I've seen appear to be sponsored by the company, and I'm worried about data security - obviously I want to access email, Facebook, etc. on the phone (that's the whole point), and they say I can wipe my data at the end, but there's a LOT of stuff linked up to those accounts and it makes me very nervous to just hand it back over.
On the flip side, I'm only in-country for 12 days. Buying a whole new phone that's useless to me in the U.S. and waiting 2+ days for a working SIM seems silly.
Does anyone have experience either buying a SIM in India (did it really take 2+ days?) or using Trabug?
