Best place to be new year's eve for a solo traveler?
Title basically says it all. I spent last new year's in Kyoto at the Fushimi Inari shrine. Rang in the new year halfway up the mountain overlooking Kyoto, and then spent the rest of the night hiking the loop so I could wait and see the first sunrise of the year with a lot of locals. It was perfect.
My dad died new year's day 2018, so I want to spend every new years someplace wonderful to watch the first sunrise. It's a way for me to add new memories to the holiday and also honor my dad. I know it's early, but I can't help but daydream about where I'll go for next year.
I'm living in Bangkok, so I have a lot of options for cheap flights (which is good as money is kinda low). I would love some suggestions on where to look into, but I'm also interested in hearing your new years stories! Where was your favorite place to ring in the new year? How did being a solo traveler add to the experience?
