2 week Colombia itinerary - too rushed/just right?
Hi all,
Yes, it's another Colombia itinerary question. I've been working on my two week itinerary for Colombia in April-May, and have this so far:
- 22 April: Fly into Bogota (arrive 7pm) – stay at hostel 20 minutes from the airport to sleep
- 23 - Travel Day: Early morning flight to Pereira (flight booked). Spend day in Salento
- 24-25 - Salento & horse riding in the Cocora Valley
- 26 - Travel Day: Travel to Medellin on direct bus
- 27 - Explore Medellin
- 28 - Day trip to Guatape
- 29-30 Bus to Jardin (overnighting here)
- 30 - Spend day in Jardin. Catch bus to Medellin for the night [haven't booked accommodation yet]
- 1 May - Travel Day: Fly to Cartagena (booked) in the morning from Medellin Airport
- 2 - Explore Cartagena
- 3 - Catch bus to Mompox
- 4 - Explore Mompox
- 5 - Catch direct bus back to Bogota, arriving on the morning of 6th May
- 6 - Fly back to UK at 8.15pm. Depending how I feel, go straight to airport, or check out the Botero or Gold Museum.
I'm wondering whether it may be better to drop Cartagena and Mompox, and spend time around Villa de Leyva instead to reduce time spent travelling? That said, I'm using flights to get around for speed/safety, so perhaps it's not too rushed.
Popayán also looks like somewhere I'd enjoy, but it seems that's fairly far out from my other destinations.
Key factors for destinations for me are: colonial history/architecture, safety, food scene, easy(ish) to get to. I'm not particularly into hiking (so no Minca/Tayrona) beaches, or partying (those days are behind me). I like places with a few less tourists and less busy, which is why I added Jardin and Mompox. If there's anywhere else people would recommend, I'd love to hear.
If anyone else will be out in Colombia at the end of April, feel free to send me a DM :)
Thanks!
