Where to solo travel for the first time?
I’m currently a senior in high school and have started to save money from job to travel this summer before college. I’m female, 18, and this would be my first time traveling alone. I have traveled out of the country a lot (Europe, Mexico, Hong Kong, etc) with my family because my dad is a pilot. I obviously still have a lot to learn about traveling and life and stuff, but I have a basic understanding of getting through airports, dealing with public transportation, being abroad in general.
I’ve been considering spending 8 weeks in Eastern Europe, traveling pretty slowly, maybe starting in Vienna, spending most of my time exploring Slovakia (I’m a quarter Slovak and have never been) and ending in Budapest. I expect this to cost $4,000 to $4,500 for me.
If I can’t make that much money before this summer, I would still want to travel but maybe closer to home (I live in Ohio) and for a shorter amount of time. Any recommendations for an alternative or thoughts on my current plans? My top priorities would be sticking to a budget and being safe as an 18 year old solo female traveler.
