What are your experiences traveling alone in West Africa?
I'm planning a big West Africa trip starting this summer, but it's such a big place I need some direction and I'd like to hear some past experiences. Mostly I'm worried that being alone, and Africa being Africa, the stress level will be high enough that travel fatigue will set in extra early. I don't want to find myself tapping out two weeks in. I'd also love to hear about any must-see places.
I'm going to rely on hitchhiking/public transport for the most part, but I also want to get a motorbike at some point, probably in Bamako, just to give myself a little extra freedom. Any tips about long-term bike travel?
The only countries I definitely want to visit are Senegal and Mali; I'll probably also go to Guinea, and I'm up in the air about Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire and Guinea Bissau. I'm aware of all the particulars about security and safety; no need to comment about that, thanks.
I've already been to Senegal and Mauritania.
