Lake Constance to SE England then Cologne?
I've got 4 full days to fill and want to see some castles.
Start point is St Gallen Switzerland on Thursday. End point is Cologne, Germany on Monday night. I will be camping or staying in my car for the entire time. I have driven through The Rhine valley several times and have visited most of those castles already. The most obvious route is done already :/
Option 1: Drive down to Slovenia, work my way to Salzburg (fri, sat sun). Drive all day to Cologne on Monday. Bad weather predicted for next weekend though.
Option 2: Drive to Salzburg, then North through W. Czech and then swing around to Cologne. Could be interesting, but I might have FOMO from not doing other routes...
Option 3: Blast to Calais, cross the channel and do SE England for 2 days, Drive to Cologne on Monday. Lots of cool castles in SE England, but expensive to cross and wrong side driving.
Option 4: Meander through Belgium, Netherlands Northern France, then end up in Cologne. Not so many stunning castles, but interesting battle sites.
I have experience driving and seeing castles across Europe, average castles per day is 6 from previous roadtrips. Most will be closed, but I am satisfied with a picture and a quick walk around. No tour needed.
What route should I take??
