ISO: ideas/tips for NE autumn 2019. 10th anniversary road trip from Duluth, MN to Portland and Burlington.

My partner and I (and our dog) have decided that our next extended journey will take us east. We will mostly be camping, for as close to free as possible. We will have our tent, but also plan to build a sleeping platform for our vehicle before this trip. The only certainties of our trip are Airbnb stops to enjoy beer/cool cities in Portland and Burlington, a visit to Hill Famstead for more beer, and attempts to summit Katahdin, Mt. Washington, and Mt. Mansfield.

We are expecting to leave Duluth around 5pm on Wed 10/9 and drive hard through Canada to be ready for Katahdin on Sat 10/12. Camp nearby. Then Sunday day and night in Portland (hopefully something delicious enough to be worthy of celebrating 10 years for dinner here) and Monday 10/14 driving to camp somewhere in White Mountains National Forest. Mt. Washington on Tuesday 10/15, Hill Farmstead Wednesday 10/16 (moving camp one of those nights). Mount Mansfield and breweries in Stowe on Thursday 10/17, Friday explore Vermont, Saturday day/night in Burlington, Sunday 10/20 early AM start back home (maybe stop in either Montreal or Toronto for an afternoon.) Back to work on Wednesday 10/23.

I am mostly for advice on things to do in Portland and Burlington, things for the drive between Portland and the forest, extra things for Wednesday near Hill Farmstead, things for free day friday, and advice about Toronto vs. Montreal in terms of time and value. Dog-friendly is a near necessity. We can crate him at airbnb or car for dinner on those 2 nights, but thats about it. Tips on campsites appreciated as well.
