Is Afghanistan still a no-no even amongst more experienced travelers?

Hello!

I really want to go to Afghanistan And I've began doing very preliminary research about the actually possibility of going to Afghanistan. I'm considering a guided tour but I'm wondering if anyone has to been to Afghanistan recently, particularly in the Eastern part of the country.

I'm not new to traveling to super dangerous places but I was in Venezuela solo last year and traveled to Albania a decade ago solo back when it was still "taboo" to go to the Balkans.

I've also been to a few more very "dangerous" countries according to travel.cg.ca. only a Couple of a avoid all travel.

I've been to the middle East in the past but I don't speak any of the languages in Afghanistan but I could find a friend who does.

So has anyone been there recently? Is it truly a most avoid destination?
