Thinking about taking a road trip this spring to Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon, staying in hostels or camping along the way (whichever more possible). Any tips on staying/ camping out there? This would be my first time. I’d have my own car, and I’m trying to travel as cheaply as possible.

Aside from staying, I’d be driving a good bit to get there (from Birmingham, AL), and I’d like to experience driving through most of the state of Arizona before turning back east. Any specific route suggestions? Maybe for old towns to see on the way?
