First time traveling alone
Hello everyone!
First, this sub has really inspired me to take the step to travel alone. Previously ive only travelled with family, friends or girlfriends. I suddenly got a job opportunity in another city, which means i have 1 month off between jobs. I intend to spend 18 days or 3 weeks of this month travelling, but none of my friends are available.
So, this started a thought process about actually traveling alone. There are a couple of things around traveling alone that scares me:
- I honestly hate being alone and in my own company. In other words, i fear that i will feel alone on the other side of the world.
- I have no one to share exciting and precious memories from the travels with.
- I do think it would be healthy for me to travel alone, and actually get used to being in my own company. Call it a self-realization trip?
I’ve thought about traveling to:
- Sri Lanka - cheap. beautiful and exciting place. Heard that there is a lot of couple travellers, i fear that i won’t meet any other solo travellers.
- Thailand - seems like a beautiful country, although i am not that into partying "hard". I Will probably meet other solo travelers here though
- Cambodia - seems like an awesome place to visit - but dunno if 2-3 weeks is enough.
- Vietnam - i love food from Vietnam and I’ve heard a lot of good about the population.
- Myanmar - seems like an exciting and totally different destination.
Does anyone have any recommendations on which country i should visit and some general tips about "feeling lonely" while travelling solo?
