First Time Solo Travel at 18yrs old - Costa Rica [MY EXPERIENCE, WHAT I LEARNED]

So here's the story of how I booked a weeklong flight to Costa Rica in the span of 48hours and traveled alone for the first time ever. (not joking about the 48hours, call me crazy lol)

This is also the first time I did a travel film/vlog style video, so please be easy on my unholy moments. Did have a lota fun making it though. And if you somehow manage to watch till the end or for at least 2 seconds, it would mean the world if you could drop a suhbsribe (are You going to be my first subscriber?).In all seriousness, I will be uploading some more travel related and photography shebang, and id love to know that at least 10 people watch my stuff (on top of myself and my parents).

About my experience traveling alone:

[TLDR version]:Traveling alone at least once is a MUST DO for anyone. It does get lonely at times, but you always have the opportunity whether at hostels or on hikes to meet new people and make new friends from different continents. Costa Rica is extremely beautiful. I did not "discover" myself, but did develop important realizations and built on a lot of self-discipline.

[full version]:Leaving my mom and friend at the airport entrance, I suddenly realized how f*ked I was. I started doubting myself and got very nervous. This was uncharted territory both literally and also emotionally. There are multiple reasons to my spontaneous decision of traveling alone: for one, I really wanted to travel and it was impossible to plan anything with my friends nor my family; for another, I wanted to work on myself and develop some important life skills; for last, I just wanted to go see the world and some beautiful nature haha! Luckily, my fears dissipated quickly as I got to Costa Rica and interacted with my first few strangers.

Traveling alone taught me many things, from self-discipline, to organization, to how to live life (Costa Ricans have this expression ''Pura Vida'' which means pure life, to live life with happiness, simplicity and optimism). More importantly, it forced me to go interact with others, both tourists and locals, to avoid loneliness. This made the experience 1000x more fun and exciting, as each new person was an opportunity to open new doors into cultures and ideas. I feel like when traveling in groups, we all have the tendency to huddle around the group. When alone, you get to truly open yourself to the world and to the environment you are visiting: a purely untainted traveling experience.

So if you are having doubts, if schedules between your friends and family never match up, just GO for it! Plan a trip and travel away by yourself! There is no better way to experience full freedom over your own life all while discovering a new country.
