First Road Trip! Looking at Vet Schools, Celebrating 2 years together, and enjoying the trip! Please help me plan this, tips and tricks and the details are posted below!
When?
Leaving the morning of June 17th and returning home June 21st
Where?
Start: Manhattan, Kansas (Kansas State University)
1st Stop: Columbia, MO (University of Missouri)
2nd Stop: Stillwater, OK (Oklahoma State University)
3rd Stop: Fort Collins, CO (Colorado State, University)
Why?
I need to tour vet schools, I apply in the fall. It will also be an anniversary together, and we enjoy spending time and making memories.
Tentative idea?
In doing research for this trip, I was thinking we would leave and drive the 4 hours to MO and tour the first school. After the tour, drive a few hours towards OK, rent a hotel/camp, and stay cheap-ish. Wake up, finish the drive, tour the second school, drive towards CO, find somewhere to crash. Wake up, finish the drive to CO, tour the school, and then find somewhere to crash for the next 2 nights, and then leave for home on the 21st.
Questions?
- Along this route, does anyone know of any off the beaten path restaurants that are cannot miss?
- How do you find campgrounds? Ideally this would be what we do to save money, because, well grad school is expensive.
- For those who have stayed near Denver, what would you recommend for lodging? Camping anywhere specific or renting a hotel?
- Any ways to save money that we wouldn't necessarily know about given it is our first official roadtrip? (we have drove one time to see a comedian, one night stay, very cheap)
- Is AirBNB a bad idea? Priceline? Travelocity? If booking hotels is better than camping, how do you find the best price? Or is AirBNB awesome?
- In Colorado, we are open to everything, anything we cannot miss? We are open to seriously everything.
In general, I just want to get this planned and ready, get notice in for work, and make sure it is smooth sailing because I love him, I am excited for vet school, and I just want to pick the best option.
Any other advice is VERY welcome.
