First hostel conflict
TL/DR Air con remote wars in a dorm.
I’m wondering if I was the dick here, or if the other guy was?
8 person dorm with Air conditioning in Cambodia. It’s hitting about 34-37c at the moment, so hot as balls, and the dorm room was a welcome break from the heat. The AC has been set to 16c the past three days I’ve been here.
A new guy checks in, and the AC unit is above his bed. I come back early evening and the room is really warm and no AC, I check the remote and someone has set it to 24c. (Biggest possible temp) No-one else was in the room so I turned it back down thinking maybe it reset. Little bit later he comes back, I hear beeping of the remote and the AC goes off, so I ask him if he’s changing it. Dude doesn’t speak much English, so was difficult to communicate but he shows that it’s too cold in his bed. (The hostel provide a proper duvet so you can definitely keep warm) I tried to communicate a temperature in the middle, but he’s not understanding, or wanting to compromise. Another guy in the dorm also pipes up that he’s too warm as well. So I put the temp to 19c, showing the AC bandit and giving him a thumbs up, and he shrugs. Wake up an hour later sweating, go to the bathroom and the AC has been put back to 24. So I turn it down to 20. This then repeats itself for the next 24 hours. I know I shouldn’t be getting annoyed by such a small thing, but I can’t speak to him to try and sort it out, and if I wanted to sleep in a hot room, I’d have gone for a cheap fan dorm... Half tempted to set the temp, and hide the remote, but that’s some passive aggressive nonsense I’d like to avoid.
