50 Day Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand Itinerary Help
Hey! So, this will be my 4th big solo backpacking trip and I've found that having a rough itinerary with rough estimations of how long to stay in each place with an ideal route has really helped reduce stress during my vacation. As this is my first time going to be visiting Southeast Asia, I'd appreciate any and all feedback and/or recommendations!
Vietnam
- Hanoi (Temple of Literature, Hoan Kiem Lake) — [3 nights]
- Sapa — [4 nights]: I want to do a trek here and visit a hill tribe.
- Cat Ba Island (Halong Bay Tour) — [3 nights]: I've read that you can do a day trip via boat to visit Halong Bay from Cat Ba and it's much less touristy. If this isn't the case, please clarify a better way to see Halong Bay!
- Ninh Binh (Mua Cave, Tam Coc) — [2 nights]
- Phong Nha (Abandon Valley Trek, Caving, Bike Ride, Duck Stop) — [4 nights]
- Hoi An (Cooking Class) — [3 nights]: Any other suggestions as to what to do here? Everyone lists this as one of the coolest cities in Vietnam to visit, but none of the major monuments I've read about online jump out.
- Da Nang (Marble Mountain, Golden Bridge, Mye Khe Beach) — [3 nights]
- Ho Chi Minh (War Museum, Cu Chi tunnels) — [3 nights]
Cambodia
- Siem Reap [3 nights]: I will fly here from HCM as the 12-20 hr bus talked about online does not appeal to me and the ~$100 is not an issue! In Siem Reap, I basically just want to spend a few days exploring Angkor Wat and chill out.
Thailand
- Krabi (Tiger Cave Temple, Tham Klang, Wat Tham Sua, Railay Beach, Dragon Crest Mountain) — [3 nights]: I will fly here from Siem Reap.
- Koh Lanta — [2 nights]
- Koh Phi Phi — [2 nights]
- Phuket (Phang Nga Bay) — [3 nights]
- Khao Sok National Park (Night Safari, Full-Day Lake, Elephant Sanctuary) — [4 days]
- Chiang Mai (Tiger Kingdom, Flight of the Gibbon, Elephant Nature Park) — [5 days]: Fly from Surat Thani.
- Bangkok (Sathorn Unique Tower, Wat Arun, Khao San Road) — [2 nights]
I am honestly lost as far as what to do on the Thai islands. I don't have enough time to get my diving certification, not really into the idea of a full moon party? I'm down for some hikes and pretty look outs though so please give me whatever advice you have.
Also, if you have any must eat food recommendations, PLEASE let me know! That will probably be the highlight of my trip.
