[21M] Planning 4 months of backpacking (SE Asia/Australia/NZ)
I'm graduating in two months and picked up a really cheap flight to Seoul in early May from Toronto. I don't start my full time job until September and have about $20,000 (US) saved up through jobs during university that I'm planning on allocating towards the trip. I'm SUPER easygoing and an avid hiker/wanderer/partier/eater/??? so I'm down to try/do just about anything. I've gone solo backpacking for 2 months before in Europe with minimal planning but my sense is that this will require a bit more preparation due to language/culture barrier. My one and only serious limitation is that I'd prefer NOT to have to drive a car if possible.
My current (very very rough) plan is:
-
South Korea
-
Japan
-
Taiwan
-
Vietnam
-
?
-
?
-
?
-
Singapore
-
Indonesia
-
Australia
-
New Zealand
Has anyone done a similar trip that can offer suggestions? A few open questions I have (any input much appreciated):
-
Where would you go in between Vietnam and Singapore?
-
What cities would you go to among these countries?
-
Would you recommend hostels? couchsurfing? airbnb? (also specific recommendations if you had one that was really impressive)
-
Literally ANY misc tips?
As I said before, responses are MUCH appreciated because I haven't planned this out at all yet, and once I get back to North America I don't think I'll have a chance like this for several years. Thanks for reading this far :)
