Going to Spain April time which I have been told is the 'shoulder' season for tourists (neither at its peak or off-peak).

Main question is that I have seen many backpackers book accommodation on the go because of one; they are not sure about how long they will stay in one place and where they will want to go and two; they discover new places from others that they need to see (usually the offbeaten track which I prefer). My only fear is not being able to get accommodation at great hostels due to over booking and getting ripped of on airfares (I remember some guys staying up all night on the computer trying to score a good price!).

Is it a good idea to play by ear in Spain during the shoulder season?

2nd question, which Sim card should I get for my phone for about 20 days of travel?
