Going to Uganda/Rwanda for one or two weeks - budget

I have some holidays to take until the end of March and have found quite cheap flights (below 350€ return) to Entebbe. I have never been to Africa (besides Morocco) before and it has been a dream of mine for a long time.

What I want:

  • Mainly I just want to experience something vastly different from what I have seen before. I spent 3 weeks in Ecuador some time ago and this was by far one of the most interesting trips I have done in my life, especially a multiple day trip staying in the middle of the rain forest.
  • I would love to see as much nature as possible, obviously doing a safari and/or things like gorilla tracking would be great, but:

Things I am concerned about:

  • Mostly money. Right now I have a budget of about 1.000€ that has to include everything such as flights, accommodation, food, vaccinations (I do have yellow fever, Hep A and B but would have to refresh some others)
  • Safari's, as well as excursions (i.e. Gorilla trekking etc), seem to cost a LOT of money, even rafting on a river seems to cost 150€. Is it worth it to go if I cannot afford any of these? Should I rather wait a few years until I am able to save a decent amount of money? So far it does not seem plausible with the budget I have.

Any ideas/input?
