South east asia for 2 months
Hey everyone I am heading off to Asia on the 15th January and I just have a few questions about currency and phone SIM cards. In relation to the SIM cards I was wondering would it be wise/necessary for me to get an Asian SIM card during my travels. My current network provider doesn't really facilitate roaming outside of Europe so I was just wondering what network I should go for? Preferably pay as you go, similar to the Lyca network. I only really need a bit of data.
My other questions are about how much local currency I should have on hand or should I just rely on using my cards? I am going to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and then onto Vietnam. I would be spending 2 weeks in Thailand and then heading across Malaysia and into Singapore. So maybe only 2 weeks between them. Then probably 3 weeks in Vietnam. I was planning on bringing around $300 cash as emergency money and then the rest of my savings are in €.
TL;DR: What Asian phone network would you recommend for travelling around south east Asia, or is it even necessary? How much Baht, Ringgit, Singaporean dollars and Dong should I keep on hand throughout my travels?
Thank you for your time :)
